A quick lunch from The Cheese Steak Shop

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

This is half of the Philly Cheese steak. Christine likes the chicken, mushroom and cheese with the works (grilled onions and peppers). The kids like the steak sandwich with bacon and cheese. It’s good stuff!

Pupusas from the Balompie’ Cafe in San Francisco

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
Today I ran over to the Balompie’ Cafe on 18th and Capp. They have been ranked as the best pupusas in the city and I had to try them for a second time to confirm. The rumors are true, these are some great pupusas and they’re cheap too only $1.75 each. Today I had the Revuelta (cheese and pork), Loroco (a flower from El Savlador) y Queso followed with a glass of fresh tamarindo, one of the better ones I’ve had. Click here to see the online reviews (and to prove I’m not completely crazy).

Just trying to get out of the city….

Viva Chavez…not really but it sounded good

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Yesterday we ate dinner with the Woodwell and the Orante family’s. Of course Bea had to make her killer lasagna. It had ham, ground beef and carrots. It had some new flavors but they all worked so well together.

The ride to work today.

After the Kabob posting I had to have a Kabob Shawerma

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

It looked better than it tasted. We go to a place in the city called Truly Mediterranean. They make the best shawermas but they’re even better on Tuesdays and Fridays. That’s when they have their chicken shawermas and seeing as today was Tuesday I thought I would go against the grain. I should have stuck with the chicken.

It’s hard to explain a shawerma but here is the just of it: It is spit roasted meet with garlic and herbs that are cut to order and put in a piece of lavosh bread and rolled with onions, tomatoes, a yogurt sauce mixed with cucumber and then I add hot sauce and feta cheese. It is the best!

Here’s a picture of one being made in Syria from the wikipedia web site

They also make a hummus to die for. I’m not sure what they put in it, but it could be crack cocaine….once you try their hummus you will all of a sudden, out of the blue have a craving for it and you must satisfy that craving. I usually buy a pint to take home to the family and it disappears fast.

I’m a sucker for a good Kabob

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I saw this posting today and wanted to share it with everyone.
Here’s the recipe:
2lbs Ground Meat (Use all beef, or a mixture of beef, veal, lamb or turkey)

1oz Package of Iranian Ground Meat Kebab Seasoning (I used the one made by Sadaf out of Los Angeles, but you can try a mixture of onion powder, salt, pepper, sumac, parsley, turmeric and cumin)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 handful of chopped parsley

2 cloves of crushed garlic

5oz of warm water

Kabob Preparation: Dilute spices in 5oz of warm water for 5 minutes to prepare marinade. After marinade is thoroughly diluted, mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Let marinate for 15 minutes. Form into ovular patties and cook on outdoor grill until desired doneness.

We’re having a BBQ at the studio today

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

This was outside of the Studio this morning

Monday, October 8th, 2007

I was on the phone with one of my employees and the last thing he said was, “There’s a whole bunch of monkey’s outside of the studio.” I asked him, “Did you just say monkey’s?” and I came around the corner and saw this.

Burning Man had an event in the neighborhood and this is one of the “art” displays that were here. The sad part is that I was taking this picture next to a 50+ year old group of guys, one wearing gold lamay pants, drinking beer out of the back of a mini van. They were waisted and didn’t realize what time or day it was. And they say drugs don’t affect you……..
