As Seen on TV

Monday, November 26th, 2007

After seeing the review of the restaurant on last week’s “Check, Please! Bay Area”(click here) My co-worker foodie and I decided to try out Marta’s Kitchen. The price was good and the plate filled you up just enough. The only issue is that the chips needed more salt and the salsa was hot! Almost too hot. With all that being said, I think the restaurant was OK, but nothing like the food you’ll find at El Metate (click here) just down the street.

I had the cheese enchilada, my personal favorite type of enchilada. It was good but I’ve had better.

Today’s Lunch at the Civic Center

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Today I had to run downtown and I noticed there was a Farmer’s Market still going on at the civic center. It seems to be going all of the time. Apparently it’s a way to distract you from all the homeless hanging out down there.

Anyway, I saw these food booths and I hadn’t had lunch so I thought I would try one. Two places had long lines, one was a vegetarian place and the other was a tamale place. So as you guessed I went straight to the vegetarian place, not! In true Hispanic carnivore action, I headed straight for the tamales. I hoped they were worth the wait, I had to walk a couple of blocks to my car and then drive back to the studio before I could eat them. So how were they you ask?

Drum roll please………. One had no flavor and the other was really good. The one with no flavor was the red pork tamale (pictured below). Thank heavens for the green sauce, that’s the only thing that saved this tamale.

When I opened the chicken tamale I was expecting the worst but I was pleasantly surprised. It had a good flavor and didn’t need the all saving green sauce.

The reason I was downtown was to buy tickets for the “Jersey Boys” show. It’s back in town and Christine and I wanted to see it.

Here’s the deal: Christine never reads this blog, so the first one to tell her that she is going to the show doesn’t have to watch the kids (offer is void if you are my mother-in-law).

The Farmer’s Market and Ray’s Sushi

Sunday, November 11th, 2007
This weekend we had time to enjoy downtown for a little bit followed by a stroll over to Hayward for Sushi.

After Emily’s game we went to the Farmer’s Market and maybe it was the overcast day but all of the produce looked so ripe and edible. The tomatoes were red, the eggplant was deep purple and everything looked so fresh.

After our stroll through the market we headed on over to Ray’s Sushi in Hayward. Their service is horrible at best but they make up for in the quality and quantity of their sushi. Below are a couple of rolls we ate.

California Crunchy Roll

Rainbow Roll

I love the view from my Thursday afternoon Leadership Team meeting….
